A nice Hispanic couple came in to be seen by our doctor at our medical office. They were referred to us by a clinic that stated they had no insurance. The couple has somewhat of a language barrier(Spanish being their 1st language) When I asked for their insurance information, they just handed me a random local number with a paper hand written stating (if you go to a doctor have them call this number.) I was not comfortable calling a random number or person to verify the patient’s insurance when we were already told they did not have insurance by their pcp. The husband of the patient, ended up calling the number and handed me his personal phone. As soon as I answered, the man was VERY unprofessional. Bullying and harassing me for not doing my job by calling the number that his client provided. I simply asked for the insurance information and he still kept yelling at me for not calling his personal number to verify their insurance. I finally told him to send me their insurance information, as I need this information to check if the insurance is in network/ eligible. He still kept yelling saying they can go anywhere they’re eligible and in network for every hospital/doctor. I then asked him to email me or fax their insurance information. He simply just emailed a screen shot of just the eligibility status and member ID. I then had to call him back for the group number. Of course he did not answer and emailed the office back stating ‘why would you call me, you realize I’m an insurance broker.....wow’ The insurance was checked and the poor couple thought their deductible was way less and thought they would be covered for the office visit. We then were able to get a hold of the actual insurance company, they stated that they are only allowed a certain amount of office visits (I believe it was 6) between a family of 4/5 people. The deductible we figured out was way more than they were told. This company preys on people and scams them with having them pay high premium cost with no benefits covered. I hope you investigate this company and expose them, so they never scam another person again!
