Type of a scam Worthless Problem-solving Service Scam
Being satisfied with the logo and the service he gave, Raphael asked if I wanted to continue working with him/Surf + Honey for marketing, ad campaigns, website design and content. He showed me a Chevrolet commercial (which I now find out that was made 10+ years ago and Surf & Honey has only been active since 2019) and a website, Towel.com, that he had done. I was impressed by his pitch and was very excited to work with his company. He made me an offer for a package including, again, brand strategy, brand look & feel, website, creative concepts, PR stunts, events, content production and photoshoots.
I was to pay $2,500.00 the day of signing and bi-monthly payments of $1,250.00 starting September 1, 2021 to February 28, 2022. We agreed on the price via a zoom call of $15,000.00 and later realized the total I paid was $17,500.00.
I needed to order new products with the new logo for the promotional pictures, brand and website design. This was very costly for me to do being I am a new company that launched November 2019 right before the global pandemic. I was under the impression that Raphael was going to start on my website design while the new products were being made per his statement on August 16, 2021, “We started your website already.”
I sent him placeholder photos for each of my products on September 10, 2021 and made him an admin to give him complete access to my current website on July 30, 2021 and he accepted.
I received my new products on November 5, 2021 and sent him new placeholder photos on November 8, 2021 per his request.
Around mid November we had a zoom call for him to show me the new website. The website was written in German, there were only 3 out of my 37 products on the website. Raphael could visibly see my disappointment during the zoom call. I saw the website for less than 1 minute before he closed it out and after that I couldn’t open the link to check progress. The website seemed to be less than 30% complete. Again I asked on December 2, 2021, when can I see the website again? He said “I will share the website next week”.
Next week came and I asked again to see the website on December 6, 2021 he said, “will share when we are happy on our side, don’t want to have you being disappointed again”. On December 11, 2021, we did a photoshoot with models. Raphael came with a camera and a laptop. He did not have any professional lighting equipment and this was an outside photoshoot at 10am. I had paid $500.00 for a location fee and had models ready for that day and time. He was not prepared as the pictures show shadowing, and the model's eyes are squinting from the sun. At one point he took out his personal cell phone to take pictures, leaving the models uncomfortable and uneasy feeling. See attached letters from each model.
On December 23, 2021, I asked about the website and he said, “I’ll present everything the 2nd week of January”.
January 14, 2022 he showed me the pictures from the photoshoot and they are highly pixelated, sun in their eyes, they are squinting, shadows on their faces, no close up pictures to showcase lash extensions and all pictures were unedited. I could use about 7 pictures from this day out of hundreds that he took. I also had to edit them myself, and edit them so much to erase the pixels. Still no website was shown to me on this day.
February 8, 2022 I asked again about the website and he said, “I will present to you the website next week”.
February 18, 2022 He said, “We are on it now”.
February 28, 2022 I sent him an email (see attached) that this was the last day of our contract and I have 7 pictures and a wallet of debt. He said, “You become rude, that’s why it takes longer. It’s not fun for me anymore”. Raphael from Surf & Honey is unprofessional, fraudulent. His work is not like the Chevy commercial or towel.com website that he pitched to me. I have yet to see a website as of March 17, 2022.
