I was signing up for in person tutoring for French in Boulder Colorado. The site used a fake person with a fake name and email address and contacted me back AS that fake person : Luna Parker. This is indeed a scam of the bait and switch variety. The terms and conditions are not presented during the initial payment process (you have to click through two links to read them) and after they debited my account $49 for their subscription service, they then replaced my tutor who was advertised as "able to do in person language lessons" with remote only option with a tutor clear across the country. I learned this during the first demo lesson after I had already paid. The original tutor had a fake email address in her profile and her name just happened to be the name of a late 70's French music group. The phone number on her profile was the phone number for a legal services company in California.

Superprof offers private tutoring on various subjects. The website lets you browse tutors and their fees. After browsing profiles, I selected a tutor at a price of $50 for a one-hour session. I was then asked to select a date/time for the lesson. I selected Thursday at 1pm. When I clicked to pay for the $50 lesson fee on the date/time selected, the price dropped to $49. I paid $49, and then I was connected to the tutor. The tutor asked me to select a date/time for a lesson. This was strange, because I already paid for a lesson that we had agreed upon. I scheduled a second lesson, and then I was charged for the lesson a second time. Confused, I looked at my credit card statement and I had two charges for one lesson. I reached out to Superprof support, and they told me that I agreed to a $49 membership package which didn't cover the lesson price. They then sent me a message that showed the fine print about the $49 membership fee, which was their way of justifying the scam. Offering customers lessons, letting them select a date and time for the lesson, agreeing on a price for the lesson, and then routing them to a membership purchase that is not what they clicked to purchase, is dishonest, regardless of whether they change the fine print at the last minute. This is a terrible scam and people need to be aware.

I just received my 2nd tutor that disappointed me.

1st tutor, Allana, never bother contacting me and finally did after 72hrs.

My second tutor, Albert, has been communicating with me all day and confirmed meeting with me about todays appt. At 6pm, an hour before our session, he cancels my tutoring stating he is not able to tutor at this time given his prior arrangements which he only remembered now.

Is this a scam site? In addition, I had 4 other tutors contact me which I turned down given I have already been assigned to Albert.

I am going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. This site is feeling like a same. DO NOT SEND UNSOLICITED TUTORS TO ME.

1) I contacted Superprof.com about their tutoring service.

2) Superprof responded back to me.

3) I told them that I found a tutor and she has not responded and it has been over 48hrs.

4) They confirmed I should have received a call back.

5) The tutor responded to me via email saying she is unable to tutor me.

6) Next, I find Albert, who confirmed accepting me and we coordinated a date.

7) An hour before tutoring was to begin, I received the following email from him.

Meanwhile, I am receiving other tutors contacting me and thanking me for reaching out to them and that they will be happy to tutor me. Each tutor has their own fees.

8) I did not contact any of the additional tutors.

9) I emailed the company and have not heard back (they are usually responsive like within minutes) about my situation and asked for a refund and to cancel future services and the monthly fee.

10) I read online that other people are going through the same thing.

I would like a refund of the monthly membership fee which I was not aware was not going to be a part of my tutoring fee.

I sent this email...

I would also like to cancel all future monthly fees as I do not want to me paying for a service that cannot produce what was promised, a tutor.

In addition, you have all of these tutors on file which seem to be fake. There should be a rating system so I can rate the service or lack thereof.

AGAIN, CANCEL MY CURRENT AND FUTURE MEMBERSHIP and please refund me my money.
