They proceed to request the victim's personal information, as will as the information of two "References" who they say they will need to keep on file for any future related problems. Once they take those details, they ask for your credit card information and forward you off to a "financial officer" who approves your new loan. At which point you receive an email requesting copies of your two last payment stubs and 1040 form.
These scam artists, armed with all of your personal information, call Nelnet posing as the victim, requesting forebearance. With that, the victim stops receiving payment reminders from Nelnet to portray that they are no longer in an agreement with them, as this company continues to withrawl monthly payments.
If this happens to you, first call your bank right away to cancel your credit card and remove the charges, then call Nelnet to share that you've been a victim of a scam and review their files to find out if they made any changes to your account. Furthermore request to add additional security questions for callers to answer to prevent any such behaviors from occuring once more.
