State of New Mexico Human Services Department Reports & Reviews (2)

I got an email from a gmail account kingfarrah1 requesting income, social security and employment information on one of our current employees. There is no signed authorization from the employee to release the info. This looks very suspicious. I have a call out to the employee to get a written authorization and to make sure he knows and wants to comply with this request. But seriously, the state of NM agencies use free gmail accounts? Where is the security in that? If it is true, how is anyone in NM supposed to know what is real and what is a scam?

The scammer contacted me through the Stephen F. Austin State University email as [email protected] on 12/9/21 looking for a personal assistant. I replied by answering setup questions through Google that was attached to the email, as in my name, gender, age, current occupation, phone number and alternative email. I got a reply from [email protected] also known as Mr. Joseph Allen on 12/16/21 telling me that I got the personal assistant job, and also sent me a text message telling me that I got the job. The scammer provided me what were my responsibilities and duties as a personal assistant and gave me my first task through email. My first task was to send money to these orphanages and pick up toys to send to them. Once I accepted the position the scammer sent $2,450 to me through email in the form of cashier check to deposit into my account. The $450 was supposed to be my weekly payment and $2,000 was for my task. I try to deposit the check through First National Bank of Texas by taking a picture of the check to deposit it online but it did not go through, because the bank deemed it as a fraudulent check. So, the scammer tried to ask me for my address to send me his check book. I did not give it to him because I was unsure if this was a scam, so I told him about the other bank that I bank with which is Regions bank. He texted me to ask me for my account number but I told him "no" because "I do not give my account number to anybody". The scammer was telling me that there was an emergency fund that he needed to send to the orphanage's supervisor of $500 for medical reasons, and told me to send the funds through Zelle to this person Adrian Mancha and gave me this email [email protected]. I deposited the check through my Regions bank by taking a picture of the check and deposited online, and the bank chose to hold the deposit until 12/27/21. Then when I told the scammer that the bank is holding the deposit, he tried to get me to send $120 of my own money and I told him "no" and then again tried to ask for $100 and I told him "no". He tried to reassure me that I will get my money back when the deposit get into my account. I texted him back and told him that, "I will stop the deposit of the check to my account and not to text or call me because I will send him proof that I have stop the check," and I sent this to him as well, "I resign my position as his personal assistant and that I believe that he was out of pocket trying make me send my own money to the orphanage". Then the scammer called and texted me on 12/18/21 on a different number telling me that I was supposed to send him money and asking me where is his money. I told him that, "I don't even know who you are and that I will block this number" so I hung up the phone and blocked his number.
