After seeing an Instagram ad that promised a $20 gift card to fill out a quick survey for Stanford Medicine, I swiped up to investigate it. The website was strange and did not end in .edu. The ad lead to https://stanfordmedicine.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1lgxd45vatShJ09 if you would like to investigate it yourself. It collects your age, race and email as far as I could see and the main page (stanfordmedicine.qualtrics.com) forwarded me to the real Stanford student log-in page. It was all very suspicious and had no legitimacy behind it. I went back to Instagram to look at the account that had purchased these ads. The tag is @stanford.social.media.study and it has no posts, no verification, is not following anyone. The name under the account is "Stanford Prevention Research" which is a pretty sketchy account name.
