I went on line and paid $49. 97 for a replacement social security card and the next day I called social security and they informed me that it was a scam and no one gets what they order and they they use your social security number and sell it and empty out the persons bank account.

I was looking online for a website to order my family and myself a replacement social security card in order for us to apply for passport. Went through their website application filled it out paid for myself and my family's cards. It said that it sent me an email with a pocket that I'm supposed to send in to receive my social security card. Did not receive email call their customer service. Customer service line I left a message I sent emails still no response. It said that their time was Eastern Standard Time. Called the next morning Hawaii time.

Didn't know it was a scam and hope nothing else worse comes out of this honestly. THEY CHARGED ME $49 FOR A NEW SS CARD AND ASKED FOR MY SS NUMBER AND ORIGINAL DRIVERS LICENSE TO BE SENT TO THEM. I NEVER GOT EITHER BACK. CALLED SSA AND THEY PUT ME IN CONNECTION WITH THE SSA OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL. THE OFFICE SAID IT IS A SCAM AND NOBODY GETS CHARGED FOR A NEW SS CARD. IT'S FREE. I FILED A COMPLAINT AND WITHIN TWO HOURS I GOT A CONFIRMATIION FROM SSN SIMPLE THAT THEY REFUNDED MY MONEY. BUT...I DONT HAVE MY NEW CARD OR DRIVER'S LICENSE. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THEY WILL GO AFTER SSN SIMPLE IF MY INFO GETS OUT AND FRAUD IS COMMITTED WITH MY SS NUMBER OR DRIVER'S LICENSE BECAUSE THEY WILL KNOW SSN SIMPLE IS IN ON THE PROCESS. GOOD LUCK. CONTACT THE OIG OF THE SSA AND REPORT THEM!

The process includes a $47. fee and the original copy of your identification card. The form they provide is exactly like the form from the social security website. The website is preying on those who are not familiar with online use. Charging for a service that is normally free. It says the offices are closed, implying they cannot be reached in anyway. It is not true and people are still able to contact the office through mail without paying a fee.
