Since early November I have been getting calls from a series of telephone numbers in which the man says, 1.(424-2651) "I'm calling about your Social Security Disability inquiry," or 2. (424-2651), 3., (424-2647) 4. (424-2653) and 5. (424-2646) "This is Scott, I'm calling about your Social Security Disability inquiry, can you hear me?" The first time when I said I had not made an inquiry, he hung up. The second time I told him I had not made an inquiry; he immediately hung up. The third time I said, "Scott, this is the third time that I am telling you that I did not make an inquiry." I then asked him how he was informed of an inquiry and he said that he did not have that information. I then asked him if he even knew my name. His reply was "An inquiry has been made for your phone number." When I again said I had not made an inquiry, he hung up. I called the Dane County Sheriff's Dispatch number and the Deputy that I spoke to told me there really wasn't anything they could do if I had not suffered a loss and he suggested I contact the Madison, WI Social Security Office. The forth and fifth time I was irritated with this harrassement and just pressed a button on my phone and said "Trace this call please," and immediately heard click. The other numbers I have listed (below) have shown up on my Caller ID; no message is being left on my answering machine. The first time that 424-2651 showed up on my Caller ID the letters SSI showed up with that number (I looked the number up on the Internet and it indicated the number was in Belleville, WI). Since then only Unknown Name shows up with these numbers. One time (I can't remember which number), I heard a beeping sound and a woman said "This call is being recorded." When I asked why, she immediately hung up. I have contacted my local Social Security Office and have been told that no activity shows up for my SS # and was given the number for their Fraud Hotline (tried that number twice and was on hold for 1/2 hour and an hour, respectively). I have a concern for any elderly neighbors who may not think to not give out any information, as I do know some elderly people with the onset of memory issues and they could find themselves in a serious situation if they gave out any information. Please note that I have began making a listing of these calls with the dates and times, if you would need that information.
