Spark Networks out of Berlin, Germany runs at least two dating websites, Elite Singles and Silver Singles (but I think there are more). When one subscribes to one of the services, there is no indication that it is the same database and basically the same service as the other. So one can potentially pay twice for the same service if they decide to choose to belong to two dating websites. This is what happened to me. When I realized I was seeing the same people on both websites, I tried to cancel the second, but was told I couldn't. So I left it as is even though this is unethical, but I realize not illegal. One month ago, I clicked "cancel subscription" on the Elite Singles subscription, knowing it was soon expiring (June 1) and was linked to a page that said even if I cancel I still have access to the site until July 23. Now on June 1, Spark Networks has charged me for and renewed my Elite Singles subscription. I explained that when I cancelled I was given a screen saying I have access to the subscription until July 23. They say this is for Silver Singles, and I see that too, but that's what happened when I clicked "cancel" on the Elite Singles site. These two sites are so intertwined once you subscribe that there is no difference and very confusing. I actually thought it was really weird that I clicked "cancel" but was told I had access to July 23 but thought, well maybe they do this for people who have both subscriptions - of course that would be the ethical thing to do since they are charging twice for the same service!
I have asked them to reverse the subscription renewal and to reimburse me, but they won't, saying I had to cancel before June 1. I explained that I tried as detailed above, but they won't budge.
