I am reporting an apartment scam made by the employees at the apartment complex SOVA. I went for a tour at the apartment complex with a SOVA employee who gave me a tour of the D3 apartment floorplan. I initially told her that I wanted to tour the D2, but she said that they only had a D3 to tour. She told that the lease was to rent by the bedroom because it is college student housing. There were different sized bedrooms, one being the standard and the other being the delux. She told that if I rented the D3 floorplan, then I would be able to lease the delux bedroom. I asked if there were any available to rent for the lease term beginning August 2020 and she said "yes." After the tour, she asked me if I would want to lease the D3 floorplan and I said yes and told her that I wanted to lease the delux bedroom. She told me that she would add that I was signing for the deluxe to the lease on file, so that my bedspace would be secured. I asked if there was a way for me to specifically choose to lease the delux bedroom on the D3 floorplan through the online website and she told me that the website was being update to include the bedspace leases, but she would add to my file that my lease was for the delux bedroom. Before signing the lease, I called SOVA to ensure that the lease they emailed to me to sign was for the deluxe bedroom on D3 and the SOVA employee who answered told that yes, it was for the deluxe. When I was assigned my apartment and room this July, I was given a standard bedroom, so I contacted the leasing manager by email to notify him that I had signed for the delux. He told me that my lease was for the standard bedroom and said that I cannot get out of the lease unless I find someone else to take it over. He did not accept responsibility for the fraudulent claims made by other SOVA employees, but his statement that the lease I signed was for the standard confirmed to me that two employees at SOVA scammed me and made fraudulent claims.
