Every year I'm required to pay the Colorado Secretary of State $10 to keep my business, Heirloom Imagery Inc. "registered". This company fraudulently lied and told me I hadn't paid the fee and attempted to charge me $75 instead. Being busy and not really remembering if I'd paid it or not, I was set to mail them a check (I just assumed the overage was "late fees") as it's possible I did blow this off and not pay it. Upon further investigation and looking up my account with the CO Secretary of State, I saw that I was in Good Standing and had paid on time. This practice SHOULD BE ILLEGAL!! They outright LIED saying I hadn't paid my periodic fee when I had. Many business owners who are too busy to look into this might just assume they did forget to pay it.
