I received a pre-recorded phone call that warned me of criminal prosecution because my Social Security account had been compromised. I was instructed to call 210-943-9252 before the case was handed over to the authorities.

To be clear: This call came in on our landline and we have been registered on the "Do not call" list for years and we re-registered this past month because we have seen an uptick in span and phishing calls. We have also requested through our carrier, Century Link, to have our incoming calls screened so that only a human calling can reach us (by pressing #1), not an automated phone call. Obviously, that particular service doesn't seem to have activated yet!

This scammer used a pre-recorded phone message. The woman informed me that fraudulent charges had been found using my SS # and that I needed to call 210-757-0718 ASAP to address the matter before legal charges were pressed against me. I have received a similar message from a person claiming to represent the IRS. This was the first time I've received something in reference to Social Security.
