I received an email at 6:43 am on 4/11/22 informing me that I had purchased a “720 degree rotation universal splash filter water outlet faucet” from the company “smarthome2”. It was being shipped to my home address, though the info was poorly entered (e.g., no space between my first and last name). I also had an online charge alert come through on my credit card. I have never heard of or visited this alleged company before and did not make this purchase, nor would I be online shopping at that time. The email did not look professional or branded so on top of knowing someone stole my personal info and was using it for fraudulent purchases, I highly suspect this could be a more complex phishing scheme. I googled the company but there were no immediate pages for “smart home 2” or similar versions of the stupid name “(e.g., “smart homes 2”). I have since gotten four additional emails. One about an item in my cart encouraging me to complete my purchase, another encouraging me to purchase another stupid drinking fountain attachment for a faucet, one informing me that my order was cancelled because the item was not in stock, followed by another encouraging me once again to purchase the same item. I have not clicked on any of the hyperlinks suspecting phishing. The order cancellation email included an actual URL “www.smarthomes2.com” so I looked that up. The company website looks like it’s just using a quick template - does not seem legitimate. The address for the business looks like it’s a residential address in SF. When I googled that, I noticed a company called “Shop Base” associated with the same address and it had over 60 complaints with the *** - most often people ordering items they never received or receiving items that were of very poor quality. I hope some justice comes to this scammer. Sidebar: I did freeze my credit card and alert the company about the fraud. Waiting to see if I actually get my money back.
