Grant that she would not have to pay back but she would need to pay 500 in advance

- Stone Mountain, GA, USA

I received 2 statements dated, 09/17/2020 and 10/19/2020 indicating a Loan Number, Due Date, Installment Amount and a Principal Balance of $29,400.00 on a SBA Disaster Loan. It states the loan is in deferment status. I have never applied for a SBA Disaster Loan. Nor, have I ever received any money from a SBA Disaster Loan. I consider this type of correspondence from the sender to be harassment and mail fraud. This is obviously some type of SCAM by the sender of this notice. The letterhead indicates the 2 statements I received came from the Small Business Administration. It uses the official SBA logo but not the same colors and the Name "U.S. Small Business Administration" is listed below the logo. The physical address is listed in Fort Worth, TX, 76155-2243 and the PO Box is listed in Portland, OR, 97208-3918. The phone number located is 761-843-4100 is listed in the NY area. The outside envelope lists the address in Denver, CO 80259 and contains, "Official Business, Penalty for Private Use, $300" with SBA-OFO-1. The return envelope has the PO BOX listed.

I got a letter from the "SBA" saying that I owed the $9900. I could make installment payments. I don't have a small business, I don't have a farm which they indicated I had. They even provided a return envelope without postage on it. The address for the return payment is: P.O. Box 3918, Portland, OR 97208-3918. The envelope that it was sent in has a Denver return address:

Says I won 100,000 but have to pay 300 dollars to the case of money or check. It says i was on a list on facebook for small business administration.

A friend called and said I was on this list to win money . I believed him because he is a Christian so being older I fell for it I sent $500.00 Walmart gift card then they said I had to send 4 $100.00 Amazon gift cards and I’m supposed to receive $100,000 dollars by Fed x in 24 hours but I’m afraid my friend lied and I’ve lost $900.00 total Catherine Lang

I was contacted out of the blue by an old friend on Facebook. I hadn't talked to this person in years. They asked how I was, and I responded, just a typical exchange of pleasantries, but any attempt to ask about them was deflected quickly. They quickly asked me if I'd heard about the Small Business Association (SBA). Then they proceeded to detail a 150k grant that was available to just about everyone. They said they got their grant check and then saw my name on the winner's list with several other friends of theirs. The other friends had all gotten their checks so this person wanted to make sure I got mine too.

This was where I started to get suspicious. I kept messaging them, but was waiting for the other shoe to drop. They eventually gave me a phone number to call in order to get my grant money. At that point I asked if this was really the person that I knew and asked them to verify how we knew each other. The answer they gave me was general (you're a family friend), but I'm fairly certain this individual would remember who I actually was and how we met.

I told them that I believed this to be a scam and I wouldn't be calling anyone. From then on they continued to insist that this was a "legit" grant and even sent me a picture of all their cash laid out on the bed. Still nothing that actually proved anyone. When I began poking holes in their story they got defensive. I've since reached out to other people that know this individual with my suspicions. I'm waiting to hear back, but they all agree that this doesn't sound like them.

I received a text message:

CONGRATULATIONS, My name is Carla Mewborn, I work for Small Business Administration. I'm so pleased to explain this to you that SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AWARD PROMO $ BIG BALL MANAGEMENT IN COLLABORATION WITH FEDERAL COMMISSION ORGANIZATION. We recover the sum of 1 billion dollars yearly which we use to support the charity and to assist people. It is for the retired, semi-retired, working and unemployed. We give $100,000.00 to everyone selected randomly through their email for the 2018/2019 lottery bonus, we select people without notifying the lucky winner through our balloting system and you happen to be among those very lucky winners. I’ll like to know if you're ready and willing to get your own money qdeliver to you and we let you know more about Small Business Administration(SBA). Are you ready to claim your winning money with us?"

I immediately thought this was some sort of scam they pulled my phone number off of a listing on something I was selling online.

I poked and prodded for information about the BSA and who I could contact to figure out the legitimacy of this program. They refused to get me any information. I just simply looked up the grant policy of the SBA and find that they don't give ANY grants. They only do business loans. (what a shocker)
