I was contacted by someone claiming to be Sgt. Jason Cooke with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Dept Investigation Unit, stating I had 2 outstanding warrants. The man said he was tracking me and told me NOT to hang up the phone or I would get an extra charge. He said I needed to turn myself in and pay a $1500 bond or spend 90 days in jail. Because of COVID, he stated that they were doing bonds differently. He said they were doing them electronically and that I needed to purchase a specific type of card and give him the numbers and he would put it in the database so I would just need to go down and sign paperwork. I purchased the cards as instructed, and before I could find out it was a scam, I had already given the numbers from the gift cards to the scammer. Needless to say, because I purchased the cards myself, the store, Target, is not liable & Discover Card won't dispute the charge because it was actually me that made the purchase and we are now out $1500.00!!
