- Melbourne, FL, USA

I was contacted by phone and told due to my payment history with my credit cards I was eligible for a substantial reduction in my interest rates. He said he was a service provider of all the credit card companies. He said he had my credit card information in front of him and I needed to verify some information in order to be sure I was the primary holder. He then asked how many credit cards I had, how much was the total balance owed on all of them and which one had the highest balance. He then asked me to get a pen and paper along with my credit cards to provide him with the last 8 numbers on each card and to write down information he was going to provide. When I asked why he needed the lat 8 numbers and the list of my credit cards, he informed me it was a verification check and in order to pull up my information he needed the last 8 numbers. (I have been caught previously with a scam on the internet and the bells were going off loudly in my head!) I told him "if I give you any numbers, I will only give you the last 4 off my cards." He proceeded to tell me how necessary it was to give me 8 numbers. He had a very foreign voice (like he was from India or Pakistan) and I asked him where he was located. He said Orlando. He gave his name as "Adam Jackson". I told him I was uncomfortable with his call and I wanted to verify it so I requested his phone number to call him back. He gave me 1-888-778-5736 ext. 8020.He then told me that after I had verified that he was legitimate, he wanted 12 numbers from my credit cards. I asked him why he wanted 12 now when he had only wanted 8 before and he said "now I do not trust you so I am requiring 12 numbers for verification." When I got off the phone I called one of my credit card companies, the ScamPulse.com and the State Attorney's Office (Crimes Against Seniors) to inquire and report this incident. As I suspected, this was a "phishing trip" to get me to provide information that could be used by them to hack into my credit card accounts. Credit card companies do not make calls of this nature, they would send you a letter.

Please do NOT respond to calls like this that you did not initiate yourself. Do Not give out information that should be only between you and you sources. People like this prey on the elderly because they think we can be intimidated and confused. Be Careful!
