- Corona, CA, USA

I was approached by a man claiming to be named "Sentinel Scott," with a sincere-sounding job offer that required I produce 6 separate illustrations, over a period of 2 weeks. After confirming my rate and requesting my address and bank information, I was given the details of the job, which sounded very legitimate. This man claimed to have a "hearing" disability, and hoped I would not treat them any differently than any of my "other clients." I responded, excited to take on the job, and gave him my rates. He told me his budget was $700 per piece, adding up to a whopping total of $4200 for the entire project. I figured it was a little too good to be true, but I also value my art skills, so I supposed I was deserving of that rate. I gave him my information (phone number, name, address and the name of my bank), and awaited his response.

"Sentinel" responded that I would receive a check in the mail and that it would begin the time frame of the job. I then receive a text from "Sentinel," informing me that their "sponsor" would be sending me a check of $23,200. $4200 of it would be mine, with an extra $2000 for any troubles I would experience "donating to orphanages" for festivities. That was the greatest red flag for me. Made no sense.

I have uploaded the conversation for your review. They are getting clever. Except for that last hint. I very nearly believed they were an actual client.
