I was approached with a job offer for a remote data entry position with Second Genome on March 5th, 2025. After an exchange of emails and an assessment test I was offered the job without an interview. They later led me to believe that this position required a software license for the position, and that they would send a photocopy of a check to print and mobile deposit. Afterwards, that "money" was used to purchase bitcoin as the vendor seemed to only accept bitcoin. While they received bitcoin as a result of my unemployment desperation, the primary sensitive information they received was a name, phone number, email and a copy of my signature. Still, I reported the incident to my bank and CashApp and closed my accounts for both when both organizations send that they couldn't help me in any meaningful way.
