Young lady came to door with a list of magazines I could choose to receive or donate to a cause. I chose to donate Girls and Boy magazines to needy schools, etc. I should know better than to purchase anything from door-to-door even if the sales person sounds credible and it supposedly goes to charity. Purchased on Oct 27, 2020, and cancelled on October 29, 2020, as per cancellation agreement. Check cleared bank and no contact was made by Second Chance as to cancellation. The address on receipt was 205 Belden Street, Michigan City, IN 46360 No phone number, but [email protected]

One sale person came to my door. He was very nice and very young. He thanked us for greeting him and that he was chased away by dogs before. He was talking about getting getting out of trouble and stuff like that, that he's trying to sell magazines and if he sells enough he gets enough points and can get educated and get a real job. Told us about his life story and troubled background.

The deal was that we can buy magazines to send to different charity organizations, and/or to our own address.

I listened to him talk and went through the magazine list and brochure (which weren't great quality, some badly printed). When it comes to paying, he told us we can use Venmo and showed us all the people who had paid (hundreds and hundreds of dollars). We were alerted that he wanted us to pay to a personal account. He said it's okay to pay with a check. But when we were looking at the name of the company, it's "Second chance LLC -1". Email on the receipt was [email protected]. However, on their website, it's [email protected]. It just seems super fishy. Btw the website looks unprofessional and had spelling errors.

So I told him I can't do it. He got mad for wasting his time. I told him he should really look into what charity he's working for. He was very insisting on the fact, first, it's not a charity, and second he doesn't care about the magazine. What he wants is for me to take interest in his growth as a person. And this is the way to support him. He seems genuinely to had no idea how sketch his company is like.

Thinking back there are a few points that came clear to me later on:

The guy said he and a bunch of people doing this are from Connecticut, that the company paid for their shirts to look nice and their accommodation. Why in the world would a company send their sale persons here to Seattle. The guy and his other buddy were both black. Maybe this is taking advantage of the BLM movement when people's sympathy and awareness of social justice at all time high.

The consumer report shows that a lot of people didn't get their magazine. This explains why they would want people to send magazines to charities, so we can't even find out whether the magazines actually get ordered.

I try to tell the guy all the reasons why this "second chance" or "elite mentor movement" seems off, but he couldn't get it. He was defending the organization how they help him got out of his trouble youth. I think he has no idea what kind of "company" he's working for

The IP address of their website was another sketchy point. Many sketchy websites also use the same IP address. https://elitementors1movemeant.com.ipaddress.com/

Door to door. A very outgoing young lady named Jada Savage Williams, sold me on a sob story about domestic abuse and her babies. She said she was using this program to get them into an apartment and go to college. She claimed to be from the south side of Chicago. She said the magazines ordered would be donated to local shelters. I used Venmo to purchase the package, just a few minutes ago she tried to get $110 more from me through Venmo.
