When I answered, the caller said, "hello is this [name]?", and I replied, "This is [name]." - at this point the caller acted as though they could not hear me and after two more iterations of the same response I said, "Yes, this is [name]." Caught in the moment, I did not realize I had been recorded saying "yes" until after the fact.
To date, I have not seen any negative ramifications of that recording.
After confirming my name, the caller identified themselves as Citibank and noted I had an overdue balance on my Sears card (which was correct). They were able to give the exact balance overdue on my card, but did not ask for any other identifying information from me at that moment. The caller then said, "To make your account up to date please provide your bank account number and routing number and we'll take care of the overdue balance right away." Because of how little information was given on their identity up front, when they asked for my banking information I looked up the number and saw many fraudulent comments had been reported for it in several databases, therefore I hung up immediately. They did not try to call me back afterward.
The scammer used my Sears card overdue balance (I'm not sure how they gained that information) to try to extract my banking information and were unsuccessful. I called both Citibank and Sears to verify the call was not legitimate, but did not receive clear confirmation. Only that my accounts did not have any fraudulent activity after the call.
