Scam Rentals Reports & Reviews (1)

- Osceola, IN, USA

We were led to believe this was a legitimate listing because the scammer had excellent grammar and was quick to respond. The photos on the website looked professional. He claimed that he had a job in another state, and needed someone to look after his house.

Our first red flag was that the scammer wouldn’t let us see inside the house for a tour. He gave us the address and said we could see the outside of the house, but actually warned us not to disturb the “current tenants.” We went to the address and talked to a neighbor across the street who told us that the property had just been sold as a rental property, but it sold within hours of listing and at a much higher price than the scammer was asking for. The neighbor even went and talked to the current resident, and the property was off the market.

Other red flags were that the scammer kept trying to rush us, and wanted us to send a partial down payment to hold the listing with zelle, cash app or Venmo. When we asked for proof of ownership, he became defensive and pushy even though he had “several people interested.”
