On the initial meeting with Frank Savory and Shanecia Savory, wife and business partner, my family was told by Shanecia that the funeral home had a grant for $5,000 to help with the expenses of the funeral expenses since the family did not have insurance. My grandson was a homicide victim on July 4, 2022. The funeral home directors told the family that the grant was set aside for homicide victims. After the initial meeting and the funeral home picked up the body from the Jackson County Medical Examiner in Kansas City, MO the family was told that the funeral home would perform a cremation, bring florals, produce pictures, produce obituary and video content, bring the my loved one's ashes and cut off locks of dreads from his hair for his mother as a keepsake to the Memorial Service which was taking place at a local church on July 23, 2022. The funeral home did not deliver on any of the promises. Instead they asked the family to pay them $2,100 just 2 days before her memorial was to take place and said that the grant did not go through after deceptively telling the family that they already had these funds and that this was guaranteed grant funds that would pay for all expenses and that anything that was left over after the $5,000 would go to the family. on the day of the Memorial the funeral home refused to bring the ashes to the site of the memorial if we did not pay them $2,100 and showed up 2 hours late with obituaries and pictures with cracked frames. The service was already in progress. I produced my own video content for the family and formed our own order of service and ordered several pictures due to the fact that the funeral home did not show. I had asked the funeral home for an itemized invoice. They refused to produce one. When I tried contact them in person and on the phone I was met with opposition and was told that his wife was out of the country and that he could not get ahold of her. However, I had some one call her number and ask about funeral services and she answered and proceeded to give them the information. Shanecia Savory was also asked how long it took to cremate a body and get their ashed back. Her reply, was about a week. It was 4 weeks and the family still did not get the ashes which makes one question if they even have the correct ashed. Instead they gave us a preliminary invoice which totalled $1,600+, then asked me for $2,100, but billed the local funder called Common Good of Kansas City for $6,900+ for services that he did not deliver. I contacted the funders and found that Mr. Frank Savory did not file for the grant funds until Friday, July 22, 2022 (one day prior to the Memorial Service. The funders said that they usually get a bill from the funeral home and pay them directly and that no funds to back to the families because they wanted to relieve the financial burdens on these families whose loved ones died by homicide. The families never see the invoice. If the family does not see an invoice then Frank Savory can double charge by collecting funds from the family then sending an inflated bill to the funders, therfore, collecting $9,000 for services that he did not perform. Our family essentially planned and serviced our own funeral service. Mr. Savory also refused to tell the family where he had our loved one's body cremated at since he is not licensed to perform cremations then he must use another service on his behalf. However, he advertises cremation services. He also included on the bill that he presented to the funders that we had purchased a package deal which included a casket when our loved one was cremated. Demanding funds, holding the ashes, ranson for $2,100, the signature on he invoice is NOT he mother's signature, refusal to bring ashes to the memorial as promised, when asked why they did not bring the ashes the family was told that " WE FORGOT THEM!" HOW DO YOU FORGET TO DO YOUR JOB?!! The family was told that someone would bring the ashes over to the church- they never showed up to the site nor offered an apology. When the funeral home finally decided to give the ashes to the mother it was only because of a call from myself (grandmother and a talk with the pastor that did the funeral for the funeral services for the family) Frank promised to wash my loved ones dreads from his hair that were cut off and put them in a bag. However, he did not do as he promised. My loved one's stepfather had to wash and clean them of the blood and dirt that remained from his gunshot injury to the head. Savory & Sons saw a scam that they could run on hurting and vulnerable families and the funders would not detect this scheme. This is a disrespectful, deceptive and unprofessional business practice that needs to be exposed and reported to the State of Missouri Board. I have supporting documentation to back of the facts of this complaint. Savory & Sons is not a business to be trusted.
