SAT ACT Reports & Reviews (1)

- Kailua, HI, USA

I received a scam call on 1/28/20 at 4:30 pm from phone number 808-213-7175.

The call was received on my home phone from a women with a pleasant educated voice.

She asked to speak to the parents of my daughter naming her by first and last name, she said she was calling from the Education Services Department regarding the SAT and ACT study guides my daughter had requested.

I asked her if she was calling from my daughters School (I named the school) twice in the conversation and she said yes both times.

She said she was calling to let me know the study guides were being mailed out and wanted to confirm my address which she knew in full. I asked her if I had to pay for this and she said no it was being lent to my daughter and should be returned in 4 weeks but if I wanted to purchase it, it will be $219.00. They were sending study guides, workbooks and CD’s and will call me to remind me of the due date but needed a credit card in case it was not returned.

I told her I didn’t have my credit card handy and I wanted her phone number to call her back and that’s when she hung up on me.

I had suspicions throughout the conversation because first my daughter didn’t tell me she was getting study guides for SAT’s from school and I know you can purchase that directly through college board and I didn’t hear about the school lending it out as an option. Another thing was that she wasn’t calling from a phone number that looked like it was from my daughters school but then I thought maybe it was a parent volunteer helping out with the calling. The biggest clue was when she asked for my credit card as I know my daughters school would normally charge our accounts for any incidentals.

Please alert parents about this scam, I don’t want anyone in our community to fall for this scam that seemed to be real especially if your child is of the age of taking the SAT and ACT tests as my daughter is.

What’s scary is that she knew my daughters name, our home phone number and address!

It’s possible they breeched the college board web and got the information that way, therefore I called the College Board and reported it. I have a case number and they said their investigations department will be researching it and getting back to me.

I also reported to our local police department.
