Replied to a Craigslist posting. Reply was through Text and email, and photos of the apartment provided by email (only 1 on the ad). Scammer claimed to be Sandra Franklin. English skills were poor. Scammer requested a rental application and claimed that there were other interested parties and to 'move quickly'. The application was an .rtf file rather than the typical BC form, however it did request the same information more or less. A day after submission of the application form I received an email that stated "Congratulations, you've been chosen!". A day later an email was received with a Lease Agreement and a request to send $850 through interac to the scammer's 'boyfriend' Erastus Olawumi at [email protected]. Throughout the interaction, I requested a viewing of the apartment several times. It was ignored. The final email stated that upon receipt of the $850 damage deposit I could collect the keys from the 'front desk' and if I decided I did not like the apartment, I would receive a full refund of my deposit. Naturally I declined the offer and indicated that I would be reporting the scam.
