I received a text message from a person claiming to have just bought a home that needed its HVAC system replaced. This person claims the house is purchased but she is out of the country (on a mission trip) and wanted us to handle the replacement. She (as she said her name was Sandra Paul) also claimed to be hearing impaired and could not speak over the phone. Calling the number revealed a spoofed number with the voicemail of a man named Larry. They claimed they wanted to give us $7200 to replace the system. But the kicker was we could only keep $1000 and $6000 must be sent back to the real estate agent to hold on to until the repair was completed and to get the keys. The $200 extra would be a "tip". Of course, after looking up the address and finding the house was still listed for sale, we called the listing agent. To our not so very surprise, they had no idea who it was and the house was not under contract nor had it been sold.
