Same Day Garage Door Repair Reports & Reviews (1)

- Marlton, NJ, USA • Nov 20, 2023

My garage door broke and I needed repairs. Normally I vet businesses I contact much more thoroughly but I was rushed to get it fixed. I typed in google "Same Day garage evesham" and contacted the first one that popped up. It has a "Google Guarantee" and a ton of 5 star reviews so without reading them, I was sold (later after investigating, these reviews are almost certainly all fake- more on that later). The listing also had "Serves Evesham" under it and I looked at it quick and thought it was IN evesham. Later I noticed that this listing actually doesn't come up in google maps at all, because it doesn't have a location. It only comes up in google searches.

Their listing has no website. Their listing says they operate 24/7 so I called the number on their listing (877-984-4355) at about 10pm at night on Tues Nov 13th. Just a side note, I think the main number changes, because I can't even find where the original number I called was posted, but if I called it they answer as "Same Day Garage Door Repair". The main number goes to what sounds like a call center and they told me they could send someone in the morning 7-10am. At 7:30am I get a call from the number (609-200-3020) that just says "I'm 20 minutes away". This was red flag #1, as he didn't introduce himself or really say anything at all. He gets to my house and he is quiet and barely says anything. We walk to the garage and he basically quotes me $2100. I thought this was outrageously high but I know nothing about garages. He said some other stuff that scared me like that he was going to have a cut a small hole on the inside of the door to fit something. He had me put my email into his phone as a customer profile, and I had to have him switch the keyboard to English because it was in Hebrew or something. This was red flag that he doesn't do this often, as he would have always remembered to switch that.

He said you have to pay half now half later. He writes up an invoice and I enter my email into his phone and he emails me an invoice. The invoice has a different business name on it than the one I called. The business on the google listing is "Same Day Garage Door Repair" and the one on the invoice is "Garage door Repairs 24/7". I also noticed that there were words on the invoice that were incorrect english. For example "botttom baraket" and other inconsistencies like some capitalized and some lowercase words. Also under one of the items on the invoice it says "3 years labor and parts" instead of the "3 years WARRANTY labor and parts" it says on the other items. He told me in person that there is a 3 year warranty. I also noticed on the invoice it was basically a service that allows companies to make their own invoices and even says on the bottom of it like "Run your own business? Start using Scan Pay for free!", which made their business seem less legit. I uploaded the pictures of the invoice.

I clicked on the pay now button on the invoice and noticed it wanted me to pay the whole thing. He didn't say anything as I was doing this, so he was just waiting to see if I would pay in full before saying anything. I said how do I split this in half and he immediately said how do you want to pay? Venmo, Zelle, etc. I said Venmos fine and he had me scan a QR code that went to his personal venmo account @refaelva94. I noticed other payments on his account payment history for garage stuff and other work so it seemed to be okay. When I paid, he pretended to have to wait to make sure the "front desk" got the payment before confirming, even though it was his own personal venmo. After paying $1,050 to Refael's personal venmo, he said he had to buy the parts and would be back.

Most of these red flags about the invoice and other things I didnt figure out until after he left and I checked closer. After reading through all the google reviews on their "Google Guaranteed" listing, I could tell that they were all fake. They were all very generic, and none of them had any profile pictures. They seem to generate new reviews every few hours or days. There was only one 1 star review where someone had the exact same experience I did, so I could tell it was legit. I'm not sure he was ever going to come back, but my wife was going to be home instead of me and I had a terrible feeling about letting them back in my house. His listing appeared above legit ones on my search because it was "Sponsored", and since I rushed to find a solution, that tricked me into contacting it. I went below his listing in the search and called some of the local places that actually have locations and websites and real reviews with profile pictures. I explained the situation to them and asked their opinion, not even trying to schedule with them, and they basically said "you're getting hosed". They even said they would come out and do it for $450 including labor. Basically all of the companies were consistent in their price and it being minimum 1/4th of the one quoted (and 1/2 of what I paid up front). I decided then that I'm cancelling with "Same Day Garage Door Repair" and I scheduled to have one of the other companies (****** Door) come out 2 days later, and they did the entire job for $479 including tax and labor.

I called the main number to cancel and ask for a refund, hours after the tech (Refael) was at my house, and the girl who answered said ok and she'll write it down and we were getting off the phone and she never even asked for my name or anything. I said do you know who I am? And she laughed and said no. Another red flag. I had the tech (Refael)'s number since he called me in the morning so I called him to tell him I cancelled, so he shouldn't come back, and that I want a refund. He pretended like he had no idea who I was. I have a camera in my garage so I have video of him in there. He changed his mind and just said he will have his supervisor call me. A different number called me (908-251-8750) and said his name was Tom and basically said he can't refund me. I recognized his name of Tom because there was an email on the invoice "[email protected]". If I put this email into google, you see his other business "Tom's Garage Door" (https://www.yelp.com/biz/toms-garage-door-plainfield-4) comes up where all the reviews again are negative and are almost identical to my experience.

I think the main thing that made me skip over red flags was the positive google reviews, which are fake. In my opinion this is a huge problem and I was tricked into using their "business". If you take a look at the google reviews it is very obvious they are fake, and generated every few hours.
