Said he was from the federal government Reports & Reviews (1)

- Kansas City, MO, USA

I received a call from an individual with a heavy accent informing me that I had been selected to receive a $9000 grant from the government because I had not been in any trouble with the law and had not filed bankruptcy in the last 6 months. He read me the spelling of my first and last names, my address and email address and had me verify them, and explained that they would wire the money to a store that did money transfers since they were not authorized to ask for my account numbers. He asked if I was married or single, but I was suspicious and needed to get on with my day, so I stopped him and ended the call. I looked up scams related to the Recovery and Reinvestment act of 2009, which he mentioned when I questioned the legitimacy of the call. That search led me to the ScamPulse.com and info on these types of scams, so I thought I'd report it. I don't know if he would have asked me for money had the call continued.
