I was entering a purchase for line trimmer from Home Depot on my desktop computer at home. Computer screen went to light blue with a warning and error number on it. It posted a phone number (toll free) to call at once. Very strong language on screen warning you not to attempt to turn off or it could damage your computer. Like a fool I called the number. Talked to a person saying he was Gary Williams at ext. #509. He said he could do a one time fix for $369.99. He was very friendly and professional in speech and manner. He used "Go to assist" a remote control software to check the system. He said the pc was compromised in May of 2018. It had been running slow and some program and icons had dropped of the desktop. Information that I was provided was my customer id was " Gets-9623" Contact # should we get disconnected was 1-855-816-3635 subscription was for a one time fix, organization was "Safe Tech Solutions", Payment Gateway: Navsam Systems Ltd, Original amount that Gary gave me was $369.99. I gave him a payment method that was declined by the card provider as possible fraud. All of a sudden the cost was $409.99 and included taxes and installation. I called 855-816-3635 escalated it to Russell Powers at ext. 10106. Gary had told me I would be receiving an email detailing what was to be done. Russell said Gary quoted wrong price and no email would come out until it was paid and approved by card services. Long story short A reliable tech at work looked at the pc and was unable to clean it up and restart. Several others indicated that the attempt to build a smart stick and reload windows 10 on my notebook and laptop may have comprised there integrity also. I have paid nothing for the attempt by vendor to fix it.0 Disposition is desktop is junk, and laptop and notebook maybe compromised. To date I have mot lost money, other than I will have to replace the 3 computers.
