I received a letter in the mail about a final notice on student loan repayment help. It looked like a letter from the US department of education. I called the number. They took me through an intake process of getting my information about my loans. They seemed to already know all of my information from Mohela so I still believed that is was the US department of education. She then asked me to send her a file with the details of my loans. Again I thought this was weird but I ignored it. Once she took all of information about my loans, my salary, where I work, my social security number, she transferred me to an adviser to consolidate my loans. He then told me what I qualify for, and then told me that 6 payments of $240 dollars is needed to complete the process. This is when I for sure realized the scam and said no thank you and to cancel the application. He was very polite and said because I didnt agree, nothing was processed and my application was cancelled. But they have all of my information from my address, to social security number, phone number, and all of my student loan information.
