After listing an item on Facebook Marketplace, a user messaged me interested to buy, and provided a phone number to text and plan the sale. They asked "Can I send you a number to know your post is real?". I declined to provide them my cell number (despite the fact they are texting my phone number). We researched if this behavior was a documented scam, and found that this has happened plenty of times to other people. Thankfully, I believe we caught the scam before any harm was done since we did not provide any verification code to them.
