Identifies himself as an employer seeking a personal/virtual assistant to help run his business on Upwork. He prefers you contact him via email and that he will pay you directly. He makes you sign a contract prior to “doing business” with you. You are to set up a remote communications application to stay in contact with him. In the event you do follow through with your end of work as a freelancer, he starts to ask for access to your bank account to see “the deposit limit”. He states that “you can take all the money out of your account if you are worried about money being stolen from you”. If you are not comfortable with that, he asks you to let him know what the limit is, even though you have agreed on a fixed payment amount, method of payment, and payment schedule. He will disregard (unless you opt for direct deposit with a bank) and proceed to state that he will pay you via mailed check. He calls you and says his “accountant” notified him that when you obtain the check, you are to deposit ONLY via ATM and not inside with the banker. When you question him about it, he states that there is a communication error and a lack of understanding. When asking for credible business information, he says he will not give out that kind of “private information”.
