Scammer identified as a Rogers associate and called my wife, offering us a better deal on phone rates. We'd had a similar legitimate call from TELUS earlier and had in fact switched carriers. So we still had a Rogers account and an attempt to lure us back was plausible.

My wife it seems gave the scammer our street address and email. He called back again twice. The last time, I took the call. He quoted my address to gain my trust. I assumed he was legit and explained we'd switched carriers. He said we still owed money from the last bill - not impossible. I asked what the last amount we'd paid was to verify his access to our account. He could not produce that and asked for my driver's license no. or SIN for a security check. I declined, saying I did not want to proceed.

I called Rogers, who said I did not owe money, that a legitimate associate would have an ID number I could ask for, and that any calls would be noted on my account. There was no such note.
