I recently started a business and received an invoice form “2021 Certificate of Good Standing Request Form” from RI Certificate Service located at 11 South Angell Street Suite 498 Providence, RI 02906-5206 requesting for a check or money order in the amount of $84.50. I googled the address and it’s someone’s house or apartment. Which strikes me odd. When I googled to apply for certification of good standing, the price was substantially low compared to the form that was mailed to me. The way the form was set up implied as if it’s urgent and needed to respond by 7/7/2021. I’d rather speak with the state office or city hall to get more information, if I needed this. Please don’t be scammed by these so called legitimate businesses. Do your research.

I received a "2020 Certificate of Good Standing Request" in the mail saying that I needed to pay $84.50 to obtain a certificate of good standing. I called the number on the letter, because I thought it was legitimate and was concerned because the deadline noted on the form to send payment had already passed. When I called, a woman with a Southern accent (I noticed this, because my Dad also has a Southern accent) picked up and was very pleasant and said I didn't need to worry about the deadline, and could send the money in regardless. I asked a few times if this is something i needed to do, and she said yes that it was important to do so. Later that day, prior to filling out the form to confirm my business information, I decided to google the address on the form where I would have sent my check and information. The address is for a UPS, which leads me to believe that it is a PO box which struck me as odd. I did more research and contacted the Rhode Island department of state and they confirmed that it is a scam, which is also noted on their website.
