Several times this past autumn, person/persons show up at my door claiming to work for Rochester Gas & Electric. They have cheap looking ID, usually with something (a decorative pin or a sticker) obscuring where the business name presumably is. They have used a variety of reasons for their visit: billing error, to make sure have the supplier you have chosen, etc., they never ask if you want to change suppliers or say they are there to change your supplier, but they ALWAYS ask to see at least the first page of your most recent bill. If you say you don't have it or can't find it, they ask for ANY bill. When I tell them I am unable to show them the bill at that time, they usually volunteer to return later that day. If you ask for a business card they claim the just gave the last one they had. One guy wrote down a phone number that turned out to be a sports bar in NYC. Unless you want to change your energy supplier, DO NOT LET THEM SEE YOUR BILL. There is a number on it that they can use to change your energy supplier with out any other confirmation of your consent.
