Reservations Expert Reports & Reviews (1)

I booked a flight on Air Canada's site a couple of months ago and just realized that the name on the ticket is not my legal name. As soon as I realized this, I Googled, "Air Canada name change policy 2022" and I couldn't find anything from the site so I clicked on various blogs -- Reservationsxpert being one of them. It was on the first page of Google.

The article says, According to the Air Canada name change/correction policy, passengers can request to name change using their official website or call 1-802-500-7022 their reservations number. (URL linked below). Seeing this I called the number thinking it was Air Canada.

I spoke with Kylie Cooper, the agent who helped me, and not once did she mention she was not Air Canada. The first question she asked me was if I booked on Air Canada's site to which I said yes. Long story short, she was like since this is a complete name change, it'll cost you $890. I told her that it's not a name change because a name change is changing it to someone else; rather, it's a name correction (per Air Canada's chatbot definitions). Learn more links were broken so I couldn't fact-check on Air Canada's site.

And guess how much this mistake is estimated to cost me? $890!! I tried asking them for a breakdown and a formula to understand how this fee is calculated. The first answer I got was, "the system calculates this number".

I asked for free seat upgrades and she said she couldn't do anything...which should have been the first red flag.

Fast forward, I called Air Canada, and they told me that they would NEVER charge for a name change to match, and guess what? this random agency took over my reservation and so in Air Canada's system, they said I booked it through a 3rd agency. NEVER in my life did I think that an agency can modify a reservation that I did NOT book through them.

After I learned this, I called them asking to cancel the name change and refund me the $890 to which they said yes. Two days later, I get an email from Air Canada saying my entire reservation has been cancelled. I only asked them to cancel the name change, not my reservation. The most sketchy part about this is that they put that number in the post making it seem like it's Air Canada's number and never once did they mention their agency name.

One last part, when the charge was pending, the merchant was "AIR CANADA" and after my call, the merchant is "AGENT FEE".
