As in many motels of that nature, they required a deposit for a "no in the room smoking policy". Not a problem for me as myself & my female friend wth me do not smoke. Having my cc ready to put on the room, i feel that i was convinced to pay the deposit in cash. I was given no receipt and asked the clerk how would the morning clerk know to give me my deposit back. He showed me an envelope stuffed with cash with guest name on it, and guarenteed me that my deposit would be fine as cash.
Upon check out, i was denied my deposit back. I put in a complaint with Red Roof Guest services and they just passed it off to the hotel manager who probably instructs his employees to do business in this way.
My $100 deposit was kept because the night clerk sleeping behind the desk stated the room smelled like cigarette smoke when she went to check it. After telling her I don't smoke, she insisted that the person I was with smokes & broke the no smoking in the room policy. Unless there are CAMERAS in the ROOMS, how can the clerk determine WHO was smoking in the room? And if she saw someone on camera outside of the room smoking (wth me or not), then No POLICY would have been broken as the person was smoking outside the room. I have the email that the obviously qualified hotel manager sent me telling me that the clerk said that I wasn't smoking, the person I was with was (who they also stated was a man even though i was with a female). But once again, if that were true, how would the clerk know who was smoking in the room? She would just argue the room smelled like smoke. Instead she was more arguing that it was the other person that smoked in the room.
Being a bit older & a female, i feel that I was taken advantage of and conned to pay in cash so they could find a reason to keep the money because i was an easy target.
