Randolph Samuel Reports & Reviews (1)

I received a text message from (512) 729-8800 on Wed. February 20 at 9:12am that read:

"Hello (my name), I'm sending this message to welcome you as a Mystery Shopper in regards to the Secret Shoppers Job you applied via Our job portal, First assignment has been mailed to your specific postal Address. Confirm your readiness and availability. Thanks, John".

Didn't think anything of it so I ignored it and went about my day. I receive text messages once a package / mail has been delivered to my apartment building. So, on Fri. Mar. 1st at 3:00pm, I received a text messaging regarding a delivery arriving at my apartment building. Wasn't able to retrieve the package and thought to myself, "what could I have ordered" because I haven't ordered or made a purchase recently and also thought it was weird that I received the text message mentioned above.

The following day, I then received another text message, from the same number above on Sat. Mar. 2nd at 8:34am that read: "Good Morning, pls confirm you receive your packet via usps and kindly confirm receipt and follow the contained instructions".

I go to my Leasing Office and picked up my package at my earliest convenience. I received a USPS priority mail express in the mail addressed from a Randolph Samuel from Spring, Texas. I opened up the enveloped and saw that there was a typed up assignment for me as a Mystery Shopper, as well as a cashier's check in the amount of $998.00. Instructions were simple: deposit / cash the check into my bank account, deduct my pay for the assignment (if completed within 24 hours of receiving the mail, receive an additional $100 included with my pay which would total $348 - I would receive $200 for Google Play surveys and a transport allowance of $48.) What the survey entailed was to purchase Google Play Gift Cards and evaluate customer complaints such as cashiers not ringing in the correct amount for the cards purchased, cards not being properly activated after purchases amongst other transaction issues that may happen. After I purchased the Google Play Gift Cards, ranging in different amounts between $50-$500 worth, from two different stores, I was to email the report along with the receipts and the codes from the gift cards to the following email addresses: [email protected] and [email protected]. I have no recollection of ever signing up as a Mystery Shopper or where I could have even signed up as a Mystery Shopper.

Once completed, I had sent the reports to the emails listed above yet I received no confirmation of receipt. I was tempted to text the phone number but I let it be. Once I saw that there was a hold on the $998 in my account, I had a feeling that something was wrong. I called my bank and they informed me that the check was not legitimate and I had tried to call the number located on the priority mail to contact BBVA Compass, however, the automated message came on stating that the number is not in service.
