Rancormotors.com Reports & Reviews (1)

The item being purchased as an 2012 Airstream trailer listed on Craigslist . While the price was low, it was within the expected price range for a trailer of its year. When I clicked on the add, the supposed owner sent me an email saying he was having trouble getting through to my email. The communication was spotty and after approximately the third attempt he told me he was often out of town because he was buying property so he had listed the trailer with Facebook Marketplace. My wife and I looked for the trailer but could not find it. I let the supposed owner know I couldn't find and he came back with another email stating that he also had it listed with RMC. He then explained RMC was Rancor Motors & Consignment and also provided a link to their website and the trailer listing. The website is very well put together and there were 18 pictures of the trailer. I went on-line and found older articles about Rancor Motors and that their business model was similar to Vroom, there were pictures on their website of everything from trailers, tractors and boats being trailered and appearing to be shipping to customers. The articles and these pictures gave me a sense that the company was authentic. In retrospect I should have investigated more because there was nothing recent. There were customer reviews on their website with the most recent I believe being 2020. I looked on the ScamPulse.com Scam Tracker site and nothing came up for any variation of RMC, Rancor Motors & Consignment etc. The site requires you to become a "registered" buyer or seller so that you can request to purchase the item. I registered basically by just inputting my name, email and phone number. Upon completion of registering the site tells you they will forward your offer (which was the listed asking price) to the seller for their approval. I also received a call from an individual (Jason) claiming to be with Rancor and he would be the agent for this transaction. He confirmed I was registered and that he would be the one forwarding the request to there seller. The next day I received an email from the supposed owner saying Rancor had contacted him with the offer and he had approved it. He asked me to keep him informed of the progress of the transaction. I then received call from Jason and he confirmed the supposed seller had accepted the offer and so we could go ahead with there payment. I called him back to get additional information and because he answered there phone I had a false sense of believing the transaction was authentic. I wired the funds to an account in a local JP Morgan bank and called Jason to confirm they had been received. He said it would take a couple days to get the funds transferred through JP Morgan to Rancor and then the shipping would take place. On their website is an area that shows the status of your transaction. You are given a transaction ID when you purchase the item and when you input that ID the status shows you what is complete and what is pending. There is also a Bill of Sale, and a Terms of Sale with the supposed owners name listed. you can download both and they are filled in with all of the pertinent information for you transaction. In my case it showed payment was received and shipping would take place as advertised within 3-5 days. There was even a countdown indicator for the shipping showing days, hours and minutes until there item shipped. I wired the money on August 22 and it appeared as if the funding transaction went through on the 23rd. I then received an email on from an individual from the "Trust and Safety Department" at Rancor stating that there were delays in shipping due to additional shipping preparation and the weekend and that the shipping would start that day 29th and take 3-5 days. The countdown indicator on the website did in fact re-start. Because of the official looking paperwork (Bill of Sale, Terms of Sale, etc) the indicator restarting and the fact that I was having communication with Rancor personnel after a point that I assumed they had the money, I was again feeling like this was a valid transaction. The countdown indicator went to zero and I never receive a call giving me a delivery date so I called the number on the website and because of a "high volume" of calls was not able to speak with anyone and was put thru to a voice Mail. I also responded to the email that had been sent earlier and requested an update on the expected delivery. I then received a text from Jason (the supposed agent) on Labor Day stating the delivery had been delayed because a customer with an item on the same trailer as mine could not take delivery that weekend and so they would get the trailer delivered that week. It seemed to me that he was responding to either my voicemail or email so again I had a feeling the transaction was real. Why else would they bother to contact me so long after they head received the funds. The countdown timer was again reset for a third time. I was still not receiving any communication on a potential delivery date so attempted to contact Jason ,left voice mails and also emailed the individual from the Trust and Safety department. All attempts were fruitless and I never received any return communication. The countdown indicator continued to zero and nothing happened. I realized every time I called the number on their website it was always the same, they were handing a large amount of calls and could not find an operator to take my call. But they would send you to the VM which of course appears to go nowhere. They do have numerous office locations shown on their website and I attempted to locate them using Google maps. It appears they have just listed various addresses in numerous cities mainly in the US, but also a couple overseas. There was a place on the website to request a refund and I did request one, but of course there is no response and I'm sure it is just a part of this whole elaborate scam.
