My 83 year old father clicked on a Facebook sponsored ad and got a screen that said his computer was locked, do not turn off the computer and call a number. He called the number and ‘technician’ scammed him into giving remote control of his computer. Somehow they got him to send an electronic payment of $580 for this ‘service.’ He realized the scam later and was able to stop the payment. He has been receiving collection calls the last few days.

We have scanned his computer and found no malware.
