The caller left a message that my current energy provider with JCP&L was about to expire and I would lose my discount if I didn't act on it. They were familiar with the layout of the JCP&L bill to tell me where to find my customer number ( they would not accept my account number). They were very polite and accommodating.

They said to hold a moment while they did a search for the best provider and then said they found Pure energy had the best rates with a twice a year rebate of $200. They could not tell me the rate. They said I could cancel at anytime. I agreed to the change but had a bad feeling. I searched the company name and found that others reported the same issue. I called my current provider and asked if my service was about to expire and it was not true.

I immediately called Pure energy back but got a recorded message that all operators were busy. I thought it was odd so I called from my cell phone, they answered right away.

I gave them the confirmation number and told them to cancel it. Now I will have to wait until my next bill to be sure that they actually cancelled.

If this is not a scam, it is definitely an extremely deceptive practice.
