I expressed interest in purchasing a French Bulldog puppy on a "contact the breeder" pop up on the website. It claimed they were an AKC breeder. I did not hear back so I called the phone number provided on the website to see if the puppy was available and left a message. Someone named Diamond Holt texted me a few minutes later on my cell phone. The puppy was available and he sent me a video of three of the puppies playing. We discussed the steps to purchase and he said they were located in Austin, Texas and the puppy would be flown into Ontario airport. I had to pay a deposit and in return the puppy would arrive in 48 hours. He gave me two options to pay the deposit with Zelle or Cash APP. I chose Zelle and sent $500 deposit. The email the scammer used was [email protected]. He said the delivery agency would call me the next morning with the number of the flight information and delivery time. As you can guess nothing ever happened and any attempt of contact from me was ignored. Later I found a pet scam website and found out other people have been scammed also.

We were in search of a lab puppy and found this website. It claimed to have a promotion where puppies were on sale at 50% off. Cost of the puppy we wanted would have been $600 plus additional $150 for shipping/delivery. They promised a 48 hour delivery to our home. We thought of course this was a good deal. Red flag #1. We were so excited we did not notice the other red flags: 1) Never received a name of the person we were communicating with 2) Contacted only via text. Never answered the phone when I called. 3) They asked for payment (deposit and shipping upfront) to ship the puppy. 4) They gave two options to pay - Via CASH APP or ZELLE. We chose Zelle since it was in our bank app and thought it would be traceable. Little did I know, that's not the case. They asked for a screenshot of the payment that included a confirmation number. Once they received, they asked for my name. After that, no response. I asked for shipping details and nothing. I did get a quick text saying, they would get back with me. Hours later, and nothing. In retrospect, we were not paying close attention to some of the signs because we were just mesmerized about getting our puppy. We are out $500 and no puppy.
