My mother received a letter from Publishers Clearing House with a Check in the amount of $6,911.23 on PNC Bank out of Indianapolis, IN. According to the letter, she had won third place of the $10,000,000.00 and the total amount to be claimed is $2,500,000.00 and to cash the check to help pay for any charges/fees that may be required before receiving the $2,500,000.00 and that once all the requirements were met the funds would be paid to her. The requirements were to contact a Mega Millions representative assigned to assist her before cashing the check.

I did a little research and the phone number to call does not show up as active in a search. I further went on to check the Publishers Clearing House website and they are warning people regarding this scam. The scammers are using the Mega Millions, Publishers Clearing House and Reader's Digest logos in the letter.

There were two addresses at the top of the letter that were: 911 Channel Drive, Port Washinto New York 11081 and 5619B Aldine Bender Rd. Houston, Texas 77032.

The check that was included in the letter, says it's from PNC Bank (with their logo) yet the check has listed on it that it was sent from Progressive Insurance Company and their logo as if Progressive wrote the check. The envelope has a Canada postmark, with no return address.

The letter and check looks very official. Please be aware of this Scam!!!
