On July 31, 2018 I called what I now suspect was a fraudulent “Gmail Technical support contact “ at Gmail Support by Protech (800-858-5617) in an effort to determine why none of my emails to the Gmail domain were being delivered. Those emails bounced back after 4 hours as if they were being blocked by Gmail.

The Support rep told me that I needed an anti-hacking expert and guided me to Tech Intel to fix the computer and get extra network security support costing $1080. John, a Tech Intel rep contacted me and fixed the problem via remote access to my computer. My bank account information was provided to process the payment via electronic check.

Tech Intel information: 116 Village Blvd, Suite 200 Princeton NJ 08540, phone 844-793-0999.

Everything was fine until September 12 when I received a call from 844-793-0999. It was John at Tech Intel informing me that the network security they had installed earlier had alerted them to an issue with my “personal network IP". He told me this was a rare situation that he had only seen a few times, and that the only fix would be a higher level network security available from CISCO Networking. The cost of $2000 would have to be paid by me at the time of install, but he assured me that this cost would be refunded via the insurance which was purchased as part of their first fix on my network. Since CISCO was only set up to make industrial transactions, he told me that he could get it from them if I provided him with the cash. The only way he knew to complete the transaction was for me to purchase 4 Walmart gift cards @ $500 each that he would use to purchase the CISCO Networking support. The gift card information was given to John @ Tech Intel.

On the next day, September 13, I received a call from John telling me that the additional security had been installed, but it appeared that my personal network IP was already too corrupted to prevent additional hacks. He believed that to fully protect my network, I would need to secure a brand new, uncorrupted IP, and that he could do that for me, again via Cisco using the same transaction process. The additional cost would be $4000. Again, I was told that I would be fully reimbursed for these costs because of the insurance I had with Tech Intel. In fact, John sent a copy of a $6000 check that their insurance company had already prepared to be payable to me when the work was done. To purchase the additional $4000 in gift cards I went to Walmart and purchased 8 gift cards in the amount of $500 each.

From September 12 -14, Tech Intel was remotely connected to my computer to "fix the problem and provide additional security". At midday on September 14, John requested yet another $2000 for even more security, this time for an issue they hadn’t anticipated being needed.

At that point, my earlier suspicion of a scam was realized when I couldn’t find any confirming evidence that Tech Intel was a legitimate tech support company. And a little more research confirmed that I wasn’t the first victim of this scam. I feel sure that I never received any security support (or any legitimate service/product) and was scammed out of a total of $7,080. Official reports regarding the scam have been filed with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and Internet Crime Compliant Center (IC3).

I called a number I thought was the customer service number for for yahoo (18008144705) because of a hacking issue and was forwarded to Tech Intel. The charged me $199.99 for "help" with encryption, fixing ip address, and more. As I looked into it further I realized this business was a scam.

A message popped up on my computer that the security has been hacked into and is in jeopardy. It said to click on a spot so that they can begin to fix the problem. It then gave a phone number to call to reach someone with appropriate instructions on how to proceed to clear the breach. Before they said they could clean up the computer, it would cost 249.99 for a year of security. I called my husband and he said go ahead. Protectera took all my bank account info and deducted it immediately, then started the process of cleaning the computer which took about a 1/2 hour. They then sent the contract by email with phone numbers to call if we had any questions. This happened in Nov. 2017.

i was using my computer and suddenly a red screen pop up came up saying that my computer was hacked and that my personal information was compromised. there was a number to call which stated it was Microsoft. and i stupidly called and gave access to my computer. they told me to type 1234 (something) that i don't ember. i was showed were supposedly the computer diagnostics. i was told that i needed to be transferred to a 6th level technician and that best buy or other techs were not able to help me. so i agreed to be transferred. they transferred me to a company called techintel. there i had to pay using my bank account because supposedly they didn't accept credit cards. at first they told me that the fee was $ 499 so i told them that i didn' t have any money and that there was nothing on my bank account. so they said that if i wanted my computer fixed i had to pay a one tie fee of $100 from ny bank account on a recorded statement. which i stupidly did. after a few minutes they showed me were my computer was "fixed" and i got charged to my bank account on the next day.
