On 06/16/2023, I landed at the JFK airport. The Uber fares were very high that morning. I was approached by a man who asked whether I was looking for transportation. He quickly ushered over a young man who said that he drives for a private car service. He said that the car had a metre and the service works like the Yellow taxis in Manhattan. After driving foe a while, I enquired about the fare and the driver reported that the fare was approaching $318. I quickly become upset and confused to the high fares. The driver stopped the metre after I told him that the fare was outrageous. I informed the driver that I could not pay him that amount and I requested to speak with his supervisor. He eventually said that it was his business and he was the boss. I quickly suggested that we come to an amount that was fair. We both agreed to $220. I gave him $20 in cash and handed him my credit card for the remaining amount. The driver asked for my email address and he said that he would send the receipt. I stated to the driver that I have never experienced this before but I take part of the responsibility for being so ignorant about the different transportation available at the airport. However, I never received an email from the driver. I checked with my bank and was informed that there was a charge for $297.00 to a Weschester Market. I explained to the bank what had happened. The bank gave me a telephone number associated with Westchester Market. Worker called the number and spoke with a famale person who stated that she don't know what I was talking about and said that I had an incorrect telephone number and there was no Westchester Market business. I continued working with the bank but they were not very helpful. I wrote a letter explaining the incident and completed a form that was requested by the bank and still they are asking about additional paperwork/information that I don't have. They informed me by letter that there was not much that they can do without certain documentation/information. I believed that I was scammed and I would like this business to be checked into because I don't have any means of going further to investigate. Thank you.
