I was looking to buy a Bengal kitten. Went to Premium Bengal Kittens website and indicated I was interested in "Jake". Received a text message from Don Allen informing me of the price - $950 and was given a PayPal email address of [email protected]. I tried to send the money, but PayPal indicated they were unable to complete the transaction and to try again later. If PayPal had told me it was an invalid email, that would have been the end of it, but they did not. I was told I could pay through Zelle. Since my bank had Zelle I did that via [email protected], I was also given the email [email protected] and the name James McKnight as an alternative way to pay. After paying, I received an email from [email protected] that I would have to pay a "refundable" fee for an air conditioned cat carrier in order to receive Jake. They gave me the email address [email protected] to pay by Zelle. I didn't realize I needed to use Mekhi Williams as the recipient and used International Carriers instead. I was told to stop payment and retry with Mekhi Williams as the recipient (thank God). My bank (Navy Federal Credit Union) wouldn't let it go through because of the name change. I called the bank and they told me it sounded like a scam. the assistant I talked to told me she has heard of this scam before and the people never get their pets. I texted back that my bank wouldn't allow the payment and they said I should go to a Walmart or CVS to sent the money. I said no, they could just send my back my money via PayPal. They refused. Thankfully, I was only out $950 vice $2200, but still, that's a lot of money and I can no longer afford a Bengal kitten.
