I drove to their office at 1700 W. Cameron Avenue in West Covina, and once I arrived there I received a sales pitch from a young, Hispanic woman named "Liana" and a young Hispanic man named "Frank" to sign up for their apartment locating services. They promised to provide me with listings of apartments that I could look at within the search area of my choice and in the type of apartment criteria that I was looking for. They said that many landlords work through them to screen out applicants for them.
After giving them my personal information, including my social security number, and signing a contract, they charged my debit card $199.00 for their services, which includes a non-refundable $65.00 to cover the cost of running a credit check on me and other incidental expenses. (I noticed later on the debit card receipt that the name of the business printed at the top was "Valley to Valley Rentals", not Prime Source Solutions.)
They then handed me 4 apparent apartment listings, which looked to be print outs from Google Maps of different apartment addresses in the area I was searching in to find a place to rent, and they had written down on each printout what the apartment was renting for and how many bedrooms it had.
I was instructed to drive by these apartments and decide if I wanted to look inside any of them. I was told that, If I was interested, I had to complete an "Interest of Property" form, which they provided for me for each apartment. The form included fields for me to fill in my name as well as the address of the property. I was to indicate on the form when would be a good time for me to see it. Once filled in, I was told to take a picture of the completed form with my cell phone camera (instead of scanning it to them) and then email it to their office.
They stated that within 15 to 30 minutes, a representative would either email or call me back to let me know when I could see the apartment. I did not receive a call at all, and the only email that I received was from a gentleman named "Tony Chen" who informed me that they had received my forms and said "someone would contact me regarding the status on the properties." I never heard anything after that.
The next day, I sent two follow-up emails to Prime Source Solutions informing them of the times that I would be available that day to see the apartments, and I never heard from anyone. I also twice called their business number and could only leave a voice message. It was on a Saturday morning at 10 AM, and I was surprised that nobody was there given the weekend is the time that most people can look at apartments.
I then went onto Yelp.com to see if anyone had reported problems with Prime Source Solutions, and unfortunately 99% of the reviews were all disatisfied customers who reported being scammed by this business, that they had never received any help from them, nor were they able to get their money refunded, despite the refund policy on the contract. Each reviewer was telling consumers to stay away from this business, as it is definitely a scam, and they are defrauding people out of their money.
