- East Haven, CT, USA

I found and communicated with two individuals online who had cockatoos they wanted to rehome. The first woman listed herself as being located in Long Island NY and then told me was located in Norfolk, VA. I told her I was not within driveable distance. She then suggested having the birds delivered to me: adoption fees and transport fees would be paid to the delivery company and released to her on delivery. The sum was exorbitant and I declined. The next person I spoke to had a gorgeous bird and he listed himself as being in New Haven CT. We made contact and then he told me he was in Richmond VA!! When I stated that this happened TWICE in one week, he said "Oh must have been a mistake made by Craigslist". Do I want to take a trip to see the birds. I declined. He then offered the birds for less than his original rehoming fee. That seemed like a compassionate thing to do. I said great. But I'm not driving to VA. Then he said you just pay delivery fees and take my bird, she's alone all day and I'm worried about her. He seemed to really care about this creature. We set it up. The "Agency" contacted me for immediate payment with flight info and asked for her ticket fee to be wired via Western Union immediately. I did so and it was picked up on their end within a half hour. My bird was to be delivered by 8pm in the evening. By 7:45, I received an email that said her crate didn't meet their "standards" and I had to send $650 which would be refunded upon delivery. Since I've left deposits with boarding lodges for my dogs that have been refunded, I didn't think too much of this, and sent the money - again Western Union. Again, Picked up within half an hour. Sure enough, within twenty minutes of my bird being delivered, I get an email asking for MORE money because an exotic species permit was required. The agent (Alex) that I spoke with, told me that through the two days I had been sending them money, my "bird" had never left the ground, and was still in VA. Common sense dictates, that within minutes of taking custody of an animal, an agent would see that her paperwork wasn't in order, her crate wasn't correct and this should have been sorted BEFORE I WAS CONTACTED INITIALLY. It is my fervent belief that this is a scam run out of Virginia USA, by a few people. Initial contact is made with people in local areas, who are then told that the bird or pet they want to adopt in unfortunately in VA but that it can be "delivered" to them. Then the squeeze is on to see how much money can be eked out of people before they cotton on to the scam.

- Austell, GA, USA

Woman acted as a breeder for Bengal kittens. She lived out of state and said she would ship the kitten to me and handle the shipping details. Then this company contacted me and I looked them up as they were requesting western union and they weren't legit, not accredited by BBB.
