Our family was searching for a Havanese puppy for our family. We found one that we fell in love with- based on photos. I texted the phone number and they asked for my email to send me info about the puppy we were interested in. They then followed up with the process for shipping the puppy to us and claimed they had some free vouchers remaining so the puppy would be shipped free of charge- then asked for a down deposite of $300 via bank-to-bank transfer or Walmart wire transfer . I asked if we could face-time to verify that it was a safe exchange for us and they reponded saying they couldn't face time because they had a Samsung phone and were a good Christian family that believes that what goes around comes around and that they feel good about their work. When I pressed for at least a phone conversation- they immediately stopped corresponding with me. Lights out. When I asked my husband to do some research- he found that the site had been flagged on PetScams, he also searched by copy and found a prior website that was no longer active that had used the exact same copy for a different Havanese sight. Also- the web domain was only purchased for 1 year.

In retrospect some red flags that could have cued me sooner were:

- Too good to be true (low price, came potty trained with food/leash/training book/toys/crate, free flight vouchers)

- Strange that all dogs were available even though it is a highly sought after breed

- Strange that all dogs were priced the same tempting price point ($600- not too much, not too little)

- Strange that there were no connections to humans on the sight- photos, names, more specific physical address

- Strange that though they asked about our history with dogs, there was minimal interest in the type of family the puppy was going to

- The obvious nail in the coffin was the fact that they were hesitant to face-time and then dropped all communication when I persisted in asking for a phone conversation.

I purchased a Havanese puppy from Precious Havanese, and everything seemed real and valid. I questioned whether it was a scam a few times, but the answers provided to me by the breeder made me think he was legit and that once I had the dog everything would be okay. They then passed the information to the delivery service, which was another scam and just kept trying to get money from me. They refused to ship the dog to me until I paid for a new heated crate for her travels, then they refused to ship her and said she needs insurance to get clearance to fly. I contacted the police who helped me realize it is all a scam. The breeder now won't answer any phone calls/texts/emails.
