I searched Google for TSA Precheck application. The first result was the website that I clicked on. I was under the impression that this was the official government website. After entering all the recommended information (name, address, phone) I was prompted to pay $149 for an application fee. I was also informed I will have to pay another $78 at the time of the in person interview. This seemed excessive, but I thought it was the required cost. I later found out that this was essentially a scam, and that this online company was misrepresenting itself. They provide no actual service and just submit your information directly to the government. When I went back to look at the website, it is now clear that this is a sketchy organization as there’s no contact phone number or email address or even country of origin listed. At the very bottom of the webpage, there is a statement that they are not affiliated with the United States government.
