I got a phone call claiming that I have fraudulent activity connected to my social security number and need to give birthdate and social security number to verify and then they would read the "charges against me"... as soon as I said, "no, I was told never to give my social security number out over the phone" then I was hung up on. That confirmed that I was being scammed.
